Summer Updates from the UIF team
September 27, 2018
Summer is a time for reflection, relaxation, and for us, a ton of events and activities! As we begin the Fall semester, we wanted to share a few highlights from our UIF team as well as provide opportunities for our community members to connect with us and with one another.
What we’ve been up to
We replicated the Silicon Valley Meetup in Bangalore, India, at our first Eastern Hemisphere Meetup with 55 Fellows from India and Australia.
We co-hosted UIF events with Fellows at Utah Valley, Twente, CO School of Mines and in Uruguay with Universidad de Montevideo and Universidad Católica del Uruguay.
In June and July, we completed five faculty workshops, teaching faculty from all over the world about design thinking and other student-centric teaching methods.
Fellows presented their activities and research at the American Society for Engineering Education’s annual conference.
Along with 6 Fellows, we held a design thinking workshop for the leadership symposium of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
This month, we launched online training for 350 students and reached our target of 100 schools. Read more about our new annual training cycle.
We launched the new uiguide role, with more than 50 Fellows providing close mentorship to students in training. Check out their intro videos here.
We built a new application system in Salesforce that will allow Fellows to communicate their impact to us much more easily, while also enabling uiguides to be more efficient with their time.
We’re excited to share a brand new video about the vital role faculty champions play in this movement.
Save the date: we plan to open the 2019 application cycle on January 1, 2019! More details coming soon.
What have you been up to?
Fellows: Have you held any activities at your school? Have you advanced a UIF project? If you’ve graduated, are you applying your UIF skills to your work?
Faculty: We want to hear about how you’re working with your Fellows and what you’re collaborating on.
Keep us in the loop and tell us here.
Connect with other Fellows and faculty
Fellows: are you on Facebook? If you’re not already member of our closed group for Fellows, please join us! It’s a great place to get help with your activities, get job and internship advice, learn about events, and even find Fellows to crash with during a road trip.
Faculty: join our closed Facebook group for faculty champions. There, you’ll be able to meet other faculty, get and give advice on mentoring students, share successes, and find new resources.
Need some in-person inspiration? Join us for a Regional Meetup at Michigan Tech, October 19-20! You’ll experience part of Tech’s Innovation Week, take on a design challenge, check out The Alley Makerspace (created by Fellows and faculty), and get outside to enjoy the colors of Fall. Regional Meetups are open to Fellows, candidates, faculty and friends. Register here.
Sending all of you high fives,
The UIF team
